Recently, American Brian Gaffney Law Firm and ERF issued a notice of violation to some violators. The article points out that California residents have used filaments containing styrene monomer in the operation of 3D printers or 3D printing pens, including acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) filaments and polycarbonate ABS (PC-ABS) filaments and high impact polystyrene (HIPS) filaments. Styrene is considered a carcinogenic chemical in California.

The facts show that filaments containing certain styrene monomers can cause harm to the human body! However, looking at the combination of components, the general ABS filaments are ternary copolymers obtained by graft copolymerization of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, of which acrylonitrile/styrene is definitely a chemical with pungent odor. .

ABS odorless uses ABS resin as main raw material, adding the modifier and other additives, modified and granulated by a special twin-screw extruder, and then made into a 3D printing material by a special filament forming machine. Experimental comparison on ABS odorless characteristics

The team has experimented more on the printing accuracy and performance of ABS odorless. We sampled the prints of eSUN ABS odorless and ABS, and compared the accuracy and performance tests under the same conditions.

The printing test conditions were as follows: nozzle temperature 230 ℃, bed temperature 90 ℃, printing speed 40 mm/s. After the printed product was placed at 80℃ to dry for 4 hours and then exposed to air for 168 hours, the team made more observations.

Accuracy comparison

eSUN ABS: diameter range is 19.77mm-20.10mm;

eSUN ABS odorless: diameter range is 19.80mm-20.06mm;

Conclusion: ABS odorless has better print accuracy.

 

Dangling comparison

Dangling result test: the maximum angle is 70°;

Conclusion: Both have good dangling results, no molding abnormality with angle ∠70°.

 

Bridging comparison

 

eSUN ABS: The fourth bridge begins to have filament sag (four bridge length 50mm);

eSUN ABS odorless: The fourth bridge appears shorter filament drooping (four bridge length 50mm);

Conclusion: ABS odorless has a slightly stronger bridging capacity.

 

Warping comparison

eSUN ABS test: 8.42mm thickness (shrinking part);

eSUN ABS odorless test: 9.43mm thickness (shrinking part);

Conclusion: ABS odorless has slightly smaller shrinkage rate.
